Likely crafted 1992, this exceptional German-style double bass bow is the work of American-born bowmaker and cellist Robert G. Proctor. After moving to Brisbane and honing his craft under Lennox Holt, Proctor spent a decade in Australia, most notably in Perth, before returning to the United States. His bows are prized for their craftsmanship and tonal clarity, with one of his double bass bows held in the Powerhouse Museum collection as of 2009.

This particular bow features an octagonal stick, a hallmark of Proctor’s work that typically yields a brighter, more articulate sound. Remarkably lightweight for a German grip bow, it balances agility with strength, and is fitted with a metal tip. A rare and refined example of Proctor’s artistry, this bow is a standout piece for both players and collectors.
