Please meet my latest creation, the ‘Tallahassee’.

A real passion project, made quietly over four years in celebration of my 30th workshop anniversary. It was finally christened and played for the very first time in late May, and showcased in Tallahassee, Florida, for the International Society of Bassists. It received the “Certificate of Merit” for workmanship — I couldn’t be happier with the outcome, and the tone is becoming bigger and more exciting by the day.

This is the fourth time I’ve made my large Da Saló–inspired model, and it truly takes a village (and a very understanding family) to build an instrument like this.

I’m deeply indebted to my Workshop Team for giving me the time to build this dream instrument, and to Corey Swan for his guidance on the scroll template and f-hole design, based on an original 400-year-old instrument.

Immense gratitude also to the wonderful Phoebe Russell, who happened to visit the workshop less than 24 hours after the instrument was strung up for the first time. Without hesitation, she picked up a bow and allowed me to record its very first notes.

Thanks to the incredible help of Gary from Upton Bass String Instrument Co., it features an adjustable, removable neck system — making travel and climatic adjustment easy and versatile.

Thank you all.
