The Jean‑Pierre Lupot basses are crafted with a distinctively flamed maple back and a highly select spruce top. Their elegantly antiqued spirit varnish, rich with deep red‑wine hues, recalls classic French workshop instruments. These basses are known for their impressive volume, vibrant overtone presence, and a strong, traditional fundamental that suits both orchestral and soloistic playing.

When these instruments arrive in our workshop, they undergo an extensive professional setup to elevate their tonal depth and playability. This includes upgrading to an Atelier Puglisi deluxe‑grade bridge, replacing the tailwire and optimizing its tension, shooting the fingerboard, reducing tailpiece weight, and resocketing the Rubner machine heads.

Every adjustment is made to enhance clarity, projection, and responsiveness across all five strings. Despite its 7/8 proportions, this model maintains a comfortable feel, string spacing, and string length, offering a broad, resonant body paired with a refined neck profile that supports ease of play. The added fifth string speaks with authority and a distinct clarity, making this bass a powerful choice for players seeking a commanding tutti orchestral presence or a jazz player looking for comfortable spacing with the option for a penetrating bottom end. Alternatively, this instrument can also be strung with a high C in place of the low B, ideal for solo players seeking enhanced maneuverability.
