The Realist pickup is an essential accessory for those playing jazz, rock, rockabilly and beyond. Easily fitted and doesn't interfere with the acoustic sound of the instrument.
ransducer for bass, wood element, 1/4" input jack.
Very transparent sound color, although texture is very slightly compressed and some instruments may experience a bit of boom. However, it is easy to amplify. No need to re-attenuate amp settings between arco and pizz.
Because it's packed with a woodern sleeve, the element won't mark the top of the instrument. Simple installation. No audible change to the acoustic sound unlike bridge mounted pick up systems which can really mute the tone.
"I like using this "Woodtone" model as opposed to the older Copper plate model. Neater fit without damaging the belly of the instrument. I have not detected any audible tonal difference between the two.
I consider using a "pick up" a bit of a necessary evil, as there really is no perfect sounding transducer pick that faithfully reproduces the acoustic sound of a double bass. But having the ability to amplify the instrument in different band or ensemble settings can be essential.
Ideally using a high-quality microphone conjunction with this pick up is the way to go.
However I would have to say the realist woodtone is great way to to get you amplify sound." Benedict Puglisi.
